This stirring work may, in more than one respect, be considered a fitting companion to Hassler's Ad Dominum cum Tribularer, (Dessoff Choir Series, No. 2). Many outstanding features, such as chromatic instrumentalists, intense dynamic life, and an imaginative, baroque interpretation of the words are to be found in both. But the rich thematic contrasts in Schein's work reveal it as the product of a later generation.
