Composed by Robert Strassburg. Sacred Jewish Choral Music Series. Chanukah. Octavo. Duration 5 minutes. Laurendale Associates #CH-1161. Published by Laurendale Associates (MN.CH-1161).

The prayer Al Hanisim is treated as a mystical motet commemorating the Chanukah Festival of Lights celebrated for eight days during the month of Kislev (in December). The text describes the heroic struggle of the Israelites against the Greco-Syrian conquerors in 168-165 B.C., who desecrated the Temple in Jerusalem and sought to subjugate the people of Israel. The music in its contrapuntal textures captures the wonder and spiritual intensity that loyalty to the Torah has inspired in worshipers from Biblical days down to the present.

Duration 5:00.
