Five Movements utilizes changing meters along with quick exchanges between players to showcase the diversity in a percussion ensemble. Also experience the slow second movement which shows off the expressive qualities of the instruments.

This is the third version of the work, originally titled Five Sketches. The first version, written in 1970-1, was written as a three-player work. The second version of 1973 was essentially a recasting for four players. In the third version, the second and third movements in particular have been rewritten extensively, and many aspects of the work have been clarified. I. Preludio: many changing meters and polyrhythms II. Notturno: slow tempo showing off the expressive qualities of the instruments III. Interludio: transition to the next movement IV. Diurno: changing complex meters with quick exchanges between players V. Postludio: finale.
