An intriguing composition that is thrilling to play and demands the attention of the listener, it features a mesmerizing ostinato, grows with the introduction of a few simple musical ideas, and then steadily builds into fascinating rhythmic complexity. Unique to this piece is that while the same chords alternate from measure to measure, the music by no means stands still. Interrupted occasionally by an accented splash of chords, the ostinato often passes from one hand to the next, eventually losing its importance as various themes begin piling one on top of the other. Climaxing in a small-scale harmonic overload which indicates the final clap of thunder, the approx. 3-minute piece gradually decelerates to a relaxing close.A good playing tempo is in between M.M. = 74 and 80.
