Written for youth choirs or any ensemble of mixed voices, this spirited anthem makes a wonderful addition to any worship service during the Advent season. The opening section, for women or optional soloist, evokes a sense of longing through soft, hushed dynamics and a gentle tempo. That mood of quiet reflection quickly turns into joy and excitement as the piece builds in the anticipation of Christ's birth. The anthem's middle section layers vocal parts into a rousing chorus that may be sung a cappella with the addition of optional handclaps. At the anthem's conclusion, the piece returns to a spirit of quiet contemplation as the choir chants a brief phrase of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel.
