Jan. also known as Johann. Dismas Zelenka was born in Lounovice. a small town southeast of Prague in what was then Bohemia. , and died in Dresden in 1745. He played the Violone, the largest. and most deeply-ranged member of the Viol family, analogous to the modern- day Contrabass.
